The Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Solan (H.P.) has been established under the aegis of the Maharishi Markandeshwar University Trust (erstwhile reputed MM Education Trust), Ambala City which was founded in November 1993 by a great visionary and renowned promoter of education, Shri Tarsem Garg for social and economic upliftment of the society, more especially the rural masses.

The Trust has made a rapid progress since its inception and has, in a short span of 15 years, developed a vast exotic lush green campus on the 'tapobhoomi' of Maharishi Markandeshwar Ji in the river bed of the sacred 'Markanda' spread over an area of 180 acres at village Mullana-Ambala with all latest amenities of a civic life and with the approval of the respective Regulating Councils of AICTE, MCI, DCI, INC, IPC, IPA, NCTE, DEC, BCI, etc., has established the following institutions of Professional courses :

In recognition of the progress achieved, ten of its institutions were conferred with the status of Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 in the name of Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana-Ambala by the Govt. of India vide its Notification dated 12-6-2007. The MMU Trust has the pride privilege in establishing the 'First Self Financing Engineering College', 'first Self Financing Medical College' and 'first Self Financing Deemed University' in the region.The University has signed academic and research collaboration with a number of reputed Universities/Institutions abroad for the benefit of its Faculty and Students.

The Institutes of Management, Engineering and Hotel Management & Catering Technology of the University at Mullana have been ranked very high in a survey of similar institutions conducted by the CSR-GHRC in 2009.

MM Engineering College, Mullana has ranked at FIRST position among the Top Ranking Engineering Colleges in Haryana; at SIXTH position among Deemed Universities with Engineering Institutes; and at TWENTIETH position among the Engineering Colleges of Excellence in the country.
MM Institute of Management, Mullana is in the list of TOP 100 Business Schools and SEVENTH among top ranking B.Schools under Deemed Universities in the country.
MM Institute of Computer Technology & Business Management (Hotel Management) has been ranked at FIFTEENTH position among Top Hotel Management Institutes in the country and has ranked at FIRST position in Haryana.

As a part of its expansion Programme, the MM University Trust (erstwhile reputed MM Education Trust, Ambala), has developed another over 40 Acres new vibrant Campus at Sadopur on Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway in the suburb of Ambala towards Chandigarh for bringing new life to the educational system and providing facilities of professional education to the people of the surrounding region. Beginning with the courses in the area of Engineering & Technology, Business Management and Computer Technology with effect from the session 2010-11, the complex in the years to come will have programmes in Medical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Nursing, Fashion Technology, etc. with special emphasis on research in emerging areas.

As a part of its further expansion Programme, to serve the society, the MM University Trust has also developed another 12-Acre Campus of MM Group of Institutions at Ramba on Karnal-Yamuna Nagar national highway in Karnal for imparting instructions in Professional courses of Engineering & Technology, Business Management, Computer Technology, etc. which will be operationalized with effect from the coming session 2010-11 with the approval of the All India Council of Technical Education.
